Back in the 60s, it was (occasionally) possible for singers of enormous talent to emerge seemingly from nowhere. Kathy Kirby was one; she died last week aged 72.
As for Cranmer, as far as I can see he didn't admit to it being an April fool. And anyone who says he's moved to Rome if he hasn't, April 1st or not, is more than an April fool...
